I really wanna learn Swahili!!!!!!
thats swahili was formed so as to make the arabs and east african people understand each other, during the arab ruling period
I just came back from Kenya and it was insanely amazing. My dads side of the family is Kenyan they came there a long time ago when portuguese and Italians migrated to Malindi, my grandparents speak broken Italian and Swahili, My moms side of the family is portuguese from Mozambique and cape verde. I noticed that alot of Kenyan blacks from the Inland speak swahili but it sounds african, but when the blacks in the coast speak Swahili it sounds more arabic and more spanish/portuguese. Is it just a different dialect or is it a differnt language? when my dad says something in Swahili i can understand it but when my grandparents say something it sounds like a whole differnt language.
Grant peace to those who love your law.
This is for a women's program that my mother is organizing, thanks.
I'm going to Kenya for a few weeks for a work-related trip in a couple of months. I could try to learn some Swahili, but am wondering if it is worth it if most everyone can speak English. I'll be in Kisumu.
The sauce is a dark brown, sweet and spicy wing sauce, with seaseme seeds in it. I have had no luck in finding this, and believe me, if you ever had it, it is to die for! If anyone does know what I am talking about, maybe you might have an idea of whats in it or the recipe to make it? THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!1
i really want one because i find myself fogetting ALOT of swahili, and i want to touch up on it. even some swahili stories online would be good. just anything to keep me entertained, and to keep the language in my brain.
I have some sentences i need to translate into swahili and was wondering if anyone could help.

I have a growing interest in Swahili music but I can't understand it. I would like to learn Swahili but, living in Canada, I don't know where or how I could do this. My mother used to live in Tanzania and then Kenya for about two years and picked up a little Swahili but what she now remembers it is not enough to carry a conversation. I already know Somali so I think I might have some accents and similar grammar styles down already.
worsened the problem of national unity
antagonized the colonial rulers
have preserved their cultural heritage
unified Africa by having everyone speak the same language
I asked this question already but I had too answers that said none of the above, but in my workbook it has these 4 multiple choice? SO it has to be one of them
I know it's normally spoken in Kenya and up there but is it at all spoken in south Africa?
African countries have many languages, but unfortunately the majority of Africans in the continent cannot communicate in their own languages. They use languages of their colonial masters, English, French, Portugese, Spanish, etc., etc. to communicate and ran their governments!!
Only few countries, such as Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda can communicate in Kiswahili, which belongs to no particular tribe.
African Union has recently adopted Kiswahili as one of its official languages and at their recent summit, it has been suggested and proposed that Swahili should be adopted as the language of the continent. Do you see this feasible?
I want to learn the language of Swahili very fast for free, which website offers the best turorial ?
inluding the way of pronunciation, where I can be able to hear the words pronounced.
I'm thinking about learning swahili? How hard is it to learn when english is my first language? Any other good language ideas for me? I want to be a linguist and a translator. I was thinking maybe Farsi...thanks!
What does this mean: najua kwamba huu ni mwanzo wa mwisho
?
Im trying to think of ways to say something.
Ok I know its probably not purely semitic because it has arab as well as bantu influences. Im from Lamu, Kenya coast and swahili is my first language. Swahili is spoken by 100 million people in east africa but only 3 million are native speakers so the other 97 million basically speak the most broken form of swahili. Most people who speak swahili but arent from the coast cant understand me and when im speaking with my mombasa friends they think we are speaking arabic. So Im just curious, is swahili classified as a semitic language, an afro semitic language, or a bantu language?
Here are links of different forms of swahili. The first two are coastal swahili and the last one is an upcountry form of swahili spoken by second language swahili spearkers.

the last video is the typical nairobi swahili speaker that is most commonly spoken but I dont consider it swahili because to me it doesnt sound as beautiful as swahili sanifu. The first two however are in pure swahili which most east africans even the ones that claim to speak swahili cant understand.
My little sister has to make a badge for her troop and she has to be creative and use africa some how in the badge so she is wondering how you say Girl scout in swahili?? in american and as it would be written in swahili please.
I want to know the founders of Kiswahili as a language.
Paulie D replyed my question about "Ungawa wakashinda"
he told me that in Swahili, it means "why you're wasting your time?" Now, I want to ask him, whether he's sure of that, because I want to use it in a my translation of a novel. I even searched Swahili dictionaries, but I just found about "wakashinda": "waka' means "they" - and "-shinda",means "conquer, overcome", or "win, succeed".
Also, I found some text that said "umgawa" means "get down" in Swahili.
What's your idea?any one of you knows Swahili language?
I am involved in a foundation that does work in Kenya and I want to learn some Swahili in preparation for upcoming trips. I'd appreciate any ideas of how to learn Swahili!
