Is it very unusual for a White American guy like me to learn Swahili the East African Bantu language?
I understand of how its unusual because, I am white American.and yet its no different when African people choose to learn to speak, read and write English, French, Spanish because those are European languages they choose to learn, and Europeans are white (Caucasian) people.

Not at all. I’m not American/ British/ European, but I’m a white South African who speaks Tswana and Sotho (native to both South Africa and Botswana).
I also know quite a few white people who speaks Zulu, Xhosa etc.
So, no it’s not unusual at all, especially if you are planning a trip to Eastern Africa where Swahili is the dominant native language.
good luck…
Yes, It’s unusual. Most people would think that only Africans would want to learn African languages, to get in touch with their roots or for some other reason. It would be much more unusual for an Asian to learn it.
I think it’s a wonderful thing!
Go forward with your learning pursuits!
No…many white people now Swahili. It’s a VERY common language, spoken outside of East Africa. I heard they were going to make it an official language of the UN. In any case, they should. it is an easy language to learn . Good luck
